Who Invented Donuts/Doughnuts?

There are a number of versions on how donuts/doughnuts were invented and who it was invented by. There are evidence of romans and Greeks frying little round doughs and dipping them into syrup.

According to Michael Krondl who is a food historian a version of the donut/doughnut was made in England in around 1750.

It is thought that the Dutch settlers brought over a form of donut/doughnut to America.

Modern Donuts/Doughnuts

Modern donut/doughnuts are thought to have been invented by am American called Hanson Gregory, who claimed to have made the ring shaped donut/doughnut.

Branded Donuts/Doughnuts

There are a number of brands that make donuts/doughnuts that use their own formula and way of making it that have become famous and popular such as Krispy Crème.

Spelling Donut/Doughnut

The spelling ‘Donuts’, is used in American English and spelt this way in the USA, whilst the spelling ‘Doughnuts’, is spelt in UK English.
