Who Invented Pizza?

Since the ancient Greeks, there has been flatbread with toppings. This could be described as a form of Pizza. There is also the thought that flatbread with toppings was eaten even before that. However, it would be somewhat different to what we now consider as a pizza. The kind of pizza you get from your local pizza restaurant. 

What Country Invented the Modern Pizza?

The modern pizza was said to be invented in Italy. The city of Naples is thought to have created the modern pizza. At that time Naples and much of that part of Italy was considered poor and so the population would require food that were inexpensive to make and could be made easily. 

Some say that King Umberto I and Queen Margherita, when visiting Naples in 19989, asked a local restaurant owner Espoisto to make them a pizza. So, he created the Margherita that was named in honor of the queen. 

When was the Pizza made in America

Like many of the dishes that came to the USA, some believe that Italian immigrants that went and settled in America took the dish and recipe there. It is believed that in the latter part of the 19th Century the Italian immigrants took the recipe to America. 

American Style Pizza 

The American version of pizza would evolve slightly differently than the original version that was taken there by the Italian immigrants. This was due to slightly different dough, oil and ingredients used.
