Toffee 

Toffee is a sweet or confectionary made from butter and sugar or sometimes molasses can be used instead of the sugar. It can also have additional products such as cream, nuts and chocolate. Sometimes a variety of flavors are used such as orange or mint to change the flavor or texture of the toffee. 

The ingredients in toffee will depend much on the brand and make of toffee as well as the region of the world.

Who Invented Toffee 

It is not known who invented Toffee, but Toffee is believed to have been invented in Wales, England. This was in the 19th Century and toffee was initially mentioned as a new word in the Oxford English Dictionary in 1825.

It is believed that the invention and popularity of toffee was due to the vast amounts of sugar and butter that was available in England and across Europe at that time. 

Types of Toffee

The original toffee was a hard product, but later soft toffee also became available. There are a number of types of toffee including caramel, butterscotch and fudge. 

English and American Toffee 

English Toffee and American Toffee (Butterscotch)  differ due to the ingredients used and fit the tastebuds of the population.
