George Crum (also known as George Speck) is credited with the invention of potato chips. It is believed whilst making French fries for a picky customer who kept complaining that the French fries were too thick, George Crum sliced paper thin pieces of potato and that became potato chips.
This invention happened when George Crum was working in Saratoga Springs, New York in a restaurant called Moons Lake House. This restaurant was supposed to be a high end restaurant where the wealthy people used to eat.
Potato Chips
Soon after the invention, the potato chips were being mass produced for consumers. Many companies began to produce potato chips, some of the most popular at the time being Mikesells Potato Chip Company, Smiths Potato Chip Company.
